The story of the Bélinac Silk Factory

began in Aurec sur Loire back in 1882. Albert Bélinac, its founder, pioneered the use of mechanical spindles specially-developed for the weaving of silk ribbon… In 1906, he ordered the construction of a building in Saint-Etienne, where the company was then transferred. Designed by the architect F Dodat, the building sits, as luck would have it, between the Condition des Soies (silk conditioning house) and the Place Jacquard

In the thirties, the son of the founder, Henry Bélinac, introduced new products to the company’s range, including linings and viscose-rayon upholstery fabrics. Henri ran the Bélinac Silk Factory until 1968 before his grandson, Jean Gelas, took over the reins and continued to add new products.

A century and two generations of managers later, the family business was taken over in 2007 by Yann Biville, the current manager.

In 2008, Bélinac became distributor of the Skaï brand for France thus bolstering its range of upholstery fabrics by proposing original and high quality faux leathers.

In September 2010, Bélinac took over Jéro and added fancier faux unis and mini motif fabrics to its range. This acquisition opened the way to it becoming the French distributor of the English Blendworth brand.

Ever since, Bélinac and its style team have been incessantly creating and developing new jacquard and timeless collections. They get inspiration from previously successful patterns found in the company’s old archives, reinterpret them and come up with new and original fabrics.

Even though Bélinac is well known for its silks, the company has embraced new materials such as polyester, spandex, acrylic, acetate and many more. This diversity of fibres means Bélinac can stay tuned to all its customer demands. Women can enjoy dressing in comfortable easy-care fabrics while in decoration, our fabrics respond positively to comfort-centric care and resistance requirements.
